Self

Couples are made up of individuals who were found by other people. Singles are people who may or may not have been found by other people and may or may not have yet found themselves. But if you're single and you're lucky, you've found yourself. If you're a part of a couple, you better hope that the other person likes what they find - or you better find yourself so it's easier being single. If you're part of a good couple, you might be lucky enough to find out more about yourself. If you're single, doubly so.

Mirror

One of the things people who know me hear or read now and then is about my morning ritual of looking myself in the eye in the morning. It started at a very young age - I do not know how it started - but every morning, I look myself in the eyes. I came across a good entry that someone else quoted from an email.

The author is unknown, but the sentiment is close to my own:

“One day all the employees reached the office and they saw a big notice on the door on which was written:

‘Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym’.

In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that man who hindered the growth of his colleagues and the company itself. The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the room.

The Footprint Vigil

Sunset VigilThis is a dream.

Staring at a sunset on a beach, the water laps at the feet - the eddies as they pass around the heel move the sand, the heels sink. A coffee cup keeps you company, its familiar weight comfortable in the left hand. The wind blows through your hair, the salt breeze sticky upon your skin, the sea breeze scent surrounds.

The sun, in its infinite wisdom, falls below the horizon. Turning around, you view the dark silhouettes and the reflection of the moon off the microcosms of broken shells, reminders that the sea is old. It is smooth but... there, you see footprints above the shoreline, someone having walked along the shore past you even as the sun began its respite.
