equality

One of the things that has puzzled me for decades is how we, as a society, approach equality. We measure things and try to make all the things we measure equal between races, genders, religions, etc... and in doing so I can't help but wonder whether it was easier to be a human being to other human beings before people started running around with measuring tape and trying to fix everything.

Don't get me wrong. Some things need to be fixed. Actually, a lot. But I think a lot of things could be fixed by spending less time measuring and more time looking past things.

One of the things that myself and others have said in the past is along the lines of the next Albert Einstein being in some part of the world where there is presently no internet access. It's one of the rhetorical statements made about the digital divide that is used to demonstrate that we have no control over where geniuses are born.
