Imagine that all the software written is the basis for all the software now.
Imagine that some of the software of the past does not have source code that can be accessed.

Pollination, with entomophily as an example, is a complete accident that perpetuates what both insects and plants need. While we can marvel at the system of pollination. To think otherwise would be to credit evolution with a consciousness and to give evolution a consciousness would have serious repercussions for atheists and the religious alike.
The failed evolutions aren't counted because they are dead. The failed pollinations aren't counted because they aren't pollinations.

Life is a process with a predictable result for the individual - death. Along the way we do some things that affect the process of others - the Life of others - be these things artifacts or thoughts expressed or thoughts made real. And as a species the same is true though we do not treat it as such.
